Bird family papers, 1836-1871.

Correspondence, land deeds, and documents of Prosper B. Bird, Madison, Wis., and his two sons, Robert and Joseph, both of whom served in the Civil War. Included is a contract to build the first jail in Dane County, Wisconsin (1839) and a letter from Private Almerean Mead (1863), who served in Captain Joseph Bird's company, describing the Battle of Rappahannock, Virginia. Robert Bird served in Co. I of the 23rd Wisconsin Infantry and Joseph N. P. Bird in Co. I of the 7th Wisconsin Infantry.
